The brief from today:

Mathias Pogba detained

Following the bizarre clips released by Mathias Pogba on social media channels last month, which claimed to have damning information on his brother, Paul, things have taken yet another twist. According to Mathias, he had evidence of things that would tarnish his brother’s worldwide reputation, and it was just a matter of time before he would release the details. Meanwhile, Paul, through his lawyers, released a statement saying they had already gone to the police because they believed his elder brother was part of a group trying to extort him for millions. Due to the official complaint filed with French police, an investigation was opened into Mathias, as well as others suspected to have been part of this ring of perpetrators. A few days ago the investigators paid a visit to the home of Mathias to ask him some questions only to discover he wasn’t there. Shortly after the missed visit, Mathias voluntarily went to the police to face the police inquiry. What was thought to be simply a routine line of questioning quickly escalated, and Mathias was placed in front of a judge who deemed it necessary, based on the investigation’s findings thus far, to detain him. His lawyer, Yassine Bouzrou, vehemently denied any wrongdoing, and said they would “challenge this decision” promptly. Only time will tell where this peculiar story heads to next.

Jean-Clair Todibo sets a new record

A new record for Ligue 1 was set today during the match between Nice and Angers. The holder of the record, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, might not be too proud of the recognition he is receiving, however. Nice were hosting Angers at the Allianz Riviera stadium, when nine seconds into the match Todibo received a straight red card for a last man tackle, and instantly put Nice down to 10 men for the whole match. Angers would also get a man sent off following Sofiane Boufal’s second caution in the 62nd minute, but the visitors who had already scored to make it 0-1 in the 43rd minute, would hold on for the victory. While there have shockingly been even quicker red cards in other leagues, Todibo has now set the standard in France, and the infamous record will be a weighty one to hold for the 22-year-old.
